Giuliano Carmignola (principal violin) Orchestra Mozart, Claudio Abbado An all star ensemble of early and baroque music specialists masters the delicate beauty of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos: the alternating solo and ensemble parts all shine with musical excellence, the communication between the musicians is outstanding, the structure of the music is always clear and intuitively understood. The orchestra features outstanding artists such as Giuliano Carmignola, Michala Petri, Alois Posch, Reinhold Friedrich and Ottavio Dantone. It was formed by Claudio Abbado and his choices speak for themselves: Claudio Abbado and the Orchestra Mozart achieve a rare homogeneity of sound. "When Claudio Abbado, recently described by the New York Times as 'the most respected living conductor', teams up with the renowned period-instrument violinist Giuliano Carmignola, the result promises to be very special." Classic FM “Teamed up here with his recently-formed young Italian ensemble, Orchestra Mozart, and his former protégé, skilled period-violin specialist Giuliano Carmignola, Abbado makes this familiar music appear fresh and vital, as if you’re hearing it for the first time.” Classical Source |

| | | Bach - Brandenburg Concertos & Violin Concertos
Bath Festival Orchestra, Yehudi Menuhin Johann Sebastian Bach collected six concertos together, which must have been written over a considerable period such is their difference in style, for dedication to the Margrave Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg in March 1721. It is thought that either Bach was commissioned or seeking a move from Cöthen to become chapel organist at the princely court, but what is certain he did not get a new job nor even a letter of thanks from the Margrave whose orchestra was too small to perform them. They have become popular classics in their field owing to their being distinctly different from the standard type of concerto grosso. This Bach achieved by the use of a variety of solo combinations and the virtuosity required by these soloists. The concertos for violin also date from his time in Cöthen and have become favourites of soloists and audiences alike through their charm and beauty. Yehudi Menuhin was a leading exponent of the music of Bach throughout his life and here he conducts and plays with his Bath Festival Orchestra in recordings dating from 1958/9. |

Musica Florea, Marek Štryncl The first Bach recording made by Musica Florea was Magdaléna Kožená and became the
landmark international debut of the mezzo-soprano, whom the ensemble accompanied. A
number of breakthrough and often highly praised recordings of Czech Baroque music (for
example, Cannes Classical Award 2003 for Zelenka’s Sub olea pacis) ensued. Now Musica Florea return to Bach with a recording of the Brandenburg Concertos. A work that has
been recorded on innumerable occasions by renowned orchestras here sounds novel, frequently
with surprising tempos. It is precisely owing to the selection of tempos that many parts make a gain
on musical logic and attractiveness for the listener, began dancing. On this recording, blood flows through the veins of Bach, elsewhere coldly decent, carved in stone.
The instrumentalists’ outstanding technique and stylistic purity go without saying, and with this
recording, Musica Florea have confirmed their position among the best Czech and European
orchestras dealing with knowledgeable interpretation of Baroque music. The most notable aspect
of the recording, however, is their exuding of the sheer joy of Bach’s music. Blood flows through the veins of Bach, elsewhere coldly decent, carved in stone, on the new
Musica Florea recording. |

European Brandenburg Ensemble, Trevor Pinnock (director) “With the Brandenburg concertos, it will be like your regular walk in the park – the path is mapped out for you and you know the way – but the light is always different” – Trevor Pinnock “Like Pinnock's earlier set with the English Concert, the newcomer… displays Pinnock's seemingly unassailable ability to choose an effective, just tempo for each movement, and his infectious rhythmic energy both as director from the harpsichord and as accomplished soloist in the Fifth Concerto... In summary, this is a splendid achievement.” BBC Music Magazine, February 2008 ***** “…the players of the European Brandenburg Ensemble include some of the finest of today's Baroque chamber players, and there is a relaxed expertise about their performances which seems to allow them to communicate directly and without technical or ideological hindrance. This is not a Brandenburg set that sets out to score points, and all that is needed from us is to sit back and enjoy its relaxed, celebratory spirit.” Gramophone Magazine, March 2008 | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
