André Isoir (organ Grenzig, 1982 Saint-Cyprien-en-Périgord) “His playing is immaculate and truly musical, beautifully phrased and neatly articulated. If you do not possess a performance there is probably no need to look any further.” Organists Review |

Pierre-Laurent Aimard (piano) “Staggering technique, searching intellect and fantastical imagination” (New York Times) “…what Aimard offers is perhaps one of the most intellectually rigorous piano versions available. No contrapuntal density defeats his forensic brain or articulate fingers. He does find lyricism and exhilaration, but there is an evenness of purpose which is both a strength... and a weakness when set against the pronounced poetry of Koroliov or MacGregor.” BBC Music Magazine, February 2008 **** “This is Bach-playing to listen to every day, Fresh, spry and well modulated. If spirituality is to be found in The Art of Fugue, Aimard seems to say, it will not be through slow tempi, dynamic extremes or the quasi-religious trappings… Perhaps no pianist since Charles Rosen has no persuasively demonstrated that this contrapuntal encyclopaedia is to be heard as well as read.” Gramophone Magazine, March 2008 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

“Released as part of Das Alte Werk's 50th anniversary 'pat on the back' to itself, Herbert Tachezi's Art of Fugue harnesses a pungent Ahrend & Brunzema organ to lend clarity to a reading which is measured yet robust.” BBC Music Magazine, February 2008 *** | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

Davitt Moroney (harpsichord) Bach’s last – and unfinished – great work takes us into a world of unsurpassed beauty and refinement. Although no specific instrumentation is indicated in the manuscript, The Art of Fugue was probably meant for the harpsichord, as is convincingly demonstrated by this splendid interpretation by Davitt Moroney, who, moreover, suggests solutions to some of the questions the work has always posed. | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

Gerhard Weinberger (Johannes Creutzburg Organ, Propsteikirche St. Cyriakus Duderstadt, 1733-35) This disc marks the conclusion of CPO’s highly acclaimed complete recording of Bach’s organ works with the re-discovery of an unknown organ composition. The aforementioned piece is a fantasia on the chorale “Wo Gott her Herr nicht bei uns hält” and CPO is delighted to be able to present the world première recording. Previously only five measures of the fantasia were known, but thanks to the musicologists at the Martin Luther University in Halle, the work in its entirety has been sensationally rediscovered and this is the first time it has been recorded on CD. A musicologist at the MLU commented of the rediscovery “the composition considerably enriches our knowledge of Bach’s early oeuvre; the music world has gained a magnificent composition.” Gerhard Weinberger completes his Bach journey with the organ version of The Art of Fugue. “Weinberger is a consummate professional and one who, as any resourceful organist would, makes whatever instrument he plays sound as if it's ideal for the repertoire at hand.” Classics Today |
