Elin Manahan Thomas, Roderick Williams, Ruth Massey & Mark Dobell The Sixteen & Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Harry Christophers Recorded at the 2007 Mostly Mozart Festival at London’s Barbican Hall, this disc reflects the unique live experience of a concert performance that captivated its audience. “…the singers of The Sixteen evoked an unearthly expressiveness. | | | Musik Der Wiener HofkapelleMusic of the Viennese Court Chapel
Lenneke Ruiten (soprano), Johannes Martin Kranzle (baritone), Daniel Behle (tenor) & Uta-Christina Georg (mezzo-soprano) WDR Rundfunkchor Köln & WDR Rundfunkorchester Köln, Helmuth Froschauer The Wiener Hofkapelle was founded in 1498, and since then a multitude of composers have left their musical imprints behind in the form of commissioned works for ecclesiastical celebrations, coronation ceremonies, lyrical dramas, operas or simple and courtly light music. In the Viennese Classical era the Wiener Hofkapelle enjoyed the compositions of none other than W.A. Mozart. The music was by and large sacred, and to this day there is a large number of works still extant. Joseph Leopold von Eybler, Johann von Herbeck and others impress with their magnificent and richly orchestrated sacral works. “[Helmuth Froschauer conducts] with just the right style and sound to make these songs arresting--albeit light—entertainment.” Classics Today on a previous recording |
