| | | Konstantin Igumnov - The Igumnov School
Konstantin Igumnov (piano) We continue our comprehensive survey of the many great pianists who worked in Russia in the Soviet era with the first two discs in
the Igumnov School. The bulk of the issues will be divided into 'schools' which represent the three main teachers of this period -
Neuhaus, Goldenweiser and Igumnov, - and their pupils. Igumnov was the oldest of the three great teachers we are considering. “Igumnov's… performance of Tchaikovsky's The Seasons makes you fall in love all over again with such an ultra-Salvonic reworking of essentially Schumannesque origins.” Gramophone Magazine, Janurary 2008 “Igumnov founded an important tradition of Russian pianism, but he didn't record much himself, and the quality of sound on this carefully prepared disc is mainly poor. He seems to have been an emphatic player, with little charm.” BBC Music Magazine, January 2008 ** | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

Recorded: Snape Maltings, May 1994 'I have the impression that her aim was to make them wholly and uniquely her own ... much of what we hear is as refreshingly imaginative as it is pianistically exemplary ... she relishes the fantasy and caprice of Carnaval with an arrestingly vivid immediacy of characterization.'
