| | | Grainger - Transcriptions for Wind Band
Ivor Hovorun (piano) Royal Northern College of Music Wind Orchestra, Clark Rundell The eccentric Percy Grainger was well-known for his musical arrangements which ranged from works by other
composers as well as arrangements of his own original and folk music settings. These arrangements form a body of
work which is perhaps unique in musical history.
Most of the works on this CD are taken from a series Grainger named Chosen Gems for Winds. Grainger had a
musical mind of unusual breadth and vision, with interests spanning the ages from mediaeval music to the latest
twentieth century developments and had the vision to see this context of the wind orchestra setting. It is likely that
enlisting in the American Army as a bandsman at the outbreak of World War I, cemented his interest in wind band
music, along with an awareness of Stokowski’s Bach transcriptions. “Wind band players will find plenty to please them in this treasure chest. I suspect that many of these works will find their way into the repertoire, and hope that they will be given equally warm recorded sound and winning performances as here.” Gramophone Magazine, May 2008 | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

| | | Franck: Twelve Pieces for Organ (Vol. 1)
The Twelve Pieces for Organ of César Franck is a definitive collection of the composer’s works for organ, performed by the Montreal-based organist and composer Pierre Grandmaison, himself a protégé of Maurice Duruflé. Franck’s extraordinary compositions revolutionized the organ repertoire and laid the foundations for future composers, including Widor, Vierne, Tournemire and Dupré. These works were recorded in Montréal’s Notre-Dame Basilica on the magnificent Casavant organ, which has been played by all the great 20th-century French organists. The Notre-Dame instrument was the first 4-manual (81 stops) Casavant organ, and the largest in the country at the time of its installation in 1891. A must-have recording for all organ music enthusiasts! | | | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. |
