 | Wilhelm Backhaus plays Chopin
Backhaus was the first pianist to record the complete Chopin etudes in 1928; this is still widely regarded as one of the best recordings of these works. Despite his incredibly long career (Backhaus performed regularly until a week before his death) Backhaus recorded the Complete Etudes only once, and this new digital remastering of that recording conveys with incredible clarity the neat, clean and powerful sound of the great German pianist. |

 | Chopin - Etudes Op. 10 & Ballades
The pianistic universe of Chopin is radical, in its harmony, its articulation, its melismata, its phrasing.
This radicality is heard both as expressive violence - Chopin is an extremist - and as a perpetual
interrogation of the foundations of the piano. Its virtuosity is never demonstrative: one always
encounters harmonic problems closely linked to the placing of the hand, in an equilibrium
constantly compromised and immediately restored. Hugues Dufourt. | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

 | Volume 4 - Etudes
Chopin composed his 27 études between 1828 and 1840, a long period relative to his short life. They are the foundation of a new system of technical piano playing that was radical and revolutionary the first time they appeared. These études are made of some of the most challenging and simultaneously evocative pieces of all the works in concert piano repertoire. Because of this, the music remains popular and often performed works in both concert and private stages. “His verve and sensitivity are allied to unsullied articulation. Power and control are matched by a firm sense of direction and shape, climaxes were approached and quitted with a satisfying inevitability.” The Daily Telegraph on two previous Mursky recordings “Crossing the Rubicon from pragmatism to poetry and transforming each study into a tone-poem of the highest quality is a supreme test of musicianship, and although Mursky is able he is rarely remarkable.” Gramophone Magazine, March 2008 | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
