| | | Rossini - The Early OperasRecorded live at the Rokokotheater Schwetzingen
Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, Gianluigi Gelmetti (conductor) & Michael Hampe (director) As a very young man, Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1868) wrote several humorous one-act operas, full of saucy elegance, sizzling wittiness, cheeky orchestration and touching lyricism. Four of these gems, filmed at the Schwetzingen Festival, have been released as a boxed set of four DVDs - the perfect Christmas present. A collection of four early Rossini operas which already feature Rossini's operatic genius. The witty realisation of these musical comedies by Michael Hampe and conductor Gianluigi Gelmetti, awarded the Rossini d'Oro Price in 1999 was met with enthusiastic approval. Recorded at the beautiful Rococo theatre in Schwetzingen, home of the Schwetzingen Festival which is cherished by opera lovers. These operas already contain all the elements with which Rossini later took the music world by storm: melodic inventiveness, ingenious connections between sung lines and orchestral accompaniment, musical humour and ensembles using breathtakingly fast parlando singing. Milestones in the still young Rossini videography and rare productions in this genre "…the whole is held in perfect balance by the conducting of Gianluigi Gelmetti with the versatile Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra."
