José Carreras, Catherine Malfitano, Gwynne Howell & Gregory Yurisich The Royal Opera & The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Edward Downes Recorded live at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London on 2nd & 6th February 1993. ‘Monday's performance was beyond any but nit-picking criticism. Downes's conducting confirmed him as one of the (if not the) world's leading Verdians - grandeur, sweep, energy, allied to extraordinary delicacy. Elijah Moshinsky's production spared us nothing in rawness and immediacy, and indeed, dramatic truth… This Stiffelio is a great event: move mountains to see it.’ The Times | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

Mario Malagnini (tenor), Dimitra Theodossiou (soprano), Marco Vratogna (baritone), Giorgio Casciarri (tenor), Enzo Capuano (bass) Orchestra e Coro del Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi di Trieste, Nicola Luisotti Stiffelio, which debuted at the Teatro Grande in Trieste on 16th November 1850, was, unquestionably, one of Verdi’s greatest flops. This opera, however, is probably as worthy, musically, as many others which acquired greater fame. The present production, staged by the Teatro Verdi of Trieste in the 150th anniversary of Stiffelio’s first performance, was recorded live by Dynamic and will give the lovers of Verdi’s music an opportunity to savour this opera’s many beautiful pages. The excellent vocal cast features the tenor Mario Malagnini in the title role and the Greek soprano Dimitra Theodossiou - a rising star in the operatic firmament - as the female protagonist Lina. | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
