Eliot Fisk (guitar), Albert Fuller (harpsichord), Frederic Hand (guitar) & Louise Schulman (viola D’amore) Orchestra of St. Luke’s This CD comprises various Concertos and Sonatas, all of them written for instruments other than the guitar, mostly lute or mandolin. However Fisk has taken a truly baroque approach to these works, adapting the music for his instrument and the wider palette of sounds it offers while still remaining conscious of the originally intended instruments and playing styles. The result has both the boldness that Vivaldi’s music demands and the dignity usually associated with the period. |

Fabio Biondi (viola d’amore) Europa Galante “On this day, a remarkable opportunity also presented itself: one of the foremost violinists of Venice, a certain Dr Antonio Vivaldi - a famous composer who in addition to playing the violin also plays a kind of viola with twelve strings, known as the viola d’amore - happened to be passing through here […]. He played … in such an exquisite manner that I have never heard its like since.” Church of the Santissimo nome d’Iddio in Cento, 25 April 1717 “Fabio Biondi plays with assurance and stylistic savoir faire yet he addresses the music's vitality more successfully than its innate poetry.” BBC Music Magazine, January 2008 *** | | | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. |
