Andreas Haefliger (piano) 2 CDs for price of 1 “The idea of recording for CD piano-recital programmes designed for the concert hall is a good one, provided that the programmes make musical sense and that the spontaneity of live performance can be preserved. On both counts, Haefliger succeeds. Sunday Times “Jaefliger's innate affinity for Beethoven's largely lyrical Op 28 Sonata manifests itself via the pianist's relaxed tempi and ample tone. ” Gramophone Magazine, June 2008 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

The first album ever recorded by Leon Fleisher, in 1956, reissued
for the first time on CD.
Born in San Francisco in 1928 of Russian Jewish immigrants, Leon
Fleisher studied with Artur Schnabel. In 1942 Pierre Monteux gave
him the opportunity to make his debut, calling him "The pianistic
find of the century." Two years later, Fleisher was invited to perform
Brahms' D-minor concerto, still under Monteux, at Carnegie Hall
with none other than the New York Philharmonic. In 1952 he was the first American to win the Queen
Elizabeth competition. In 1956, Leon Fleisher recorded his first album for Columbia Records and chose
Schubert's Sonata D960 that remains to this day one of his preferred works (he recorded it again in 2004).
The superficially simple Ländler D790 intelligently complete the programme of this exceptional 28 year-old.
Fleisher went on to become a legendary teacher, continuing the Austro-German legacy of Schnabel. “Fleisher's reading ranks with the finest on record.” Gramophone Magazine, May 2008 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Schubert - Late Piano Sonatas
Following four ground-breaking, critically-acclaimed recordings of the Schubert piano sonatas and lieder with Ian Bostridge, EMI Classics are now pleased to release the piano sonatas in one 2CD set. The Schubert Lieder featuring Bostridge will be released later in the year. “This repertoire speaks to me in such a profound way.It strikes a chord in me in a way that no other music does.” Leif Ove Andsnes on Schubert “This is a welcome separating of Andsnes's last Schubert sonatas from their couplings with Bostridge's way with some Lieder. These are noble accounts, but limited in an intensely competitive field.” BBC Music Magazine, August 2008 *** | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |
