Telemann: Double Concerto in A minor for Recorder, Gamba and String Orchestra

Telemann represents one of the most appealing aspects of German Baroque music at its summit. Having composed over 100 concertos for a great variety of instrumental ensembles, this disc provides an insight into Telemann’s compositional genius by focusing strongly on the Recorder.

Christian Mendoze is an extraordinary musician, he is considered to be one of the finest recorder players performing regularly with the ensemble and also with soloists and musicians such as Rene Jacobs and Concerto Koln. Christian Mendoze founded Musica Antiqua in 1981 in the Provence region. The ensemble performs music from the 17th & 18th centuries on original or copies of early instruments.

Telemann, that most prolific of baroque composers, offers us here some of his most elegant, ingenious and spirited instrumental music. Using of a novel instrumentation that yields unique combinations of tone colour, each of these works aims above all at providing pleasure both to the performers and listener. The baroque quartet Les Boréades has invited several excellent colleagues to share in the pleasure, including the eminent period violinist Manfred Kraemer.
