Cappella Coloniensis, Hans-Martin Linde The Cappella Coloniensis are always on the lookout for forgotten, pushed aside music and a challenge. For this new disc of overtures they perform works by four composers of the same era as Bach, Handel, Telemann and Vivaldi. Whilst these four are well known names, Heinichen, Graupner, Fasch and Graun are often overshadowed by their more well known baroque contemporaries, despite sharing a similar success. The colourfully orchestrated overtures and orchestral suites give the soloists in the Cappella ample opportunity to present their virtuosity. |

| | | Flute Concertos
The flute was an extremely popular solo instrument throughout the 18th century – both in its older form, the recorder, and its more modern variation, the transverse flute. All the pieces on this disc were written for the transverse flute mixed with a variety of other instruments. Telemann’s Concerto in E minor juxtaposes the transverse flute with the recorder, as a farewell to the old and a welcome to the new, and Fasch’s Concerto in G major is for the somewhat unusual combination for transverse flute and oboe. The soloists and the conductor on this recording have all contributed to the history of German flute performances. Hans-Martin Linde has been a pioneer of recorder music since the 1950s as well as a successful conductor and Günther Höller and Konrad Hünteler are both virtuosos on their respective instruments. |

Johann Friedrich Fasch (1685-1758) had two very good friends: Pisendel based in Dresden and Graupner based in Darmstadt . All three com posers exchanged music throughout their long association. As a result of this practice many of Fasch’s works have survived in autograph manuscrispt form in the great libraries of these two cities. To mark the occasion of Faschs’s death Il Gardellino have recorded these superb orchestral concertos. |

| | | Fasch - Overtures and ConcertiPremiere recordings
Friedrich Fasch, a contemporary of Bach and Telemann. Richard Stone of Tempesta di Mare describes the pieces
as ‘fantastic, true discoveries… they have the breadth and complexity of J.S. Bach without the austerity, and have a
much more evolved sense of orchestral colour that’s truly extraordinary’. The concert was titled The Fantastic Herr
Fasch – A Genius Rediscovered, and presented a gigantic five-movement orchestral suite, two concerti for
orchestra and an Andante. The works in this concert were recorded for this CD release, which means that all the
energy and enthusiasm of the concert performance are here for all to appreciate. “These 'world premiere' recordings reveal Fash's melodic fluency and, most strikingly, a sophisticated armoury of wind instruments, which he marshals with the colouring and character continued by later Dresden orchestras. ” Gramophone Magazine, June 2008 “Though horns are rather distant, CD sound is clean and bright in this live performance of a most welcome addition to the repertoire.” BBC Music Magazine, September 2008 **** | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

Zoltan Megyesi, Peter Cser & Maria Zadori Capella Savaria baroque Orchestra & Schola Cantorum Budapestiensis, Terey-Smith An important contemporary of J. S. Bach, Fasch studied at Leipzig University. He failed to obtain the position of Cantor at the choir school of St Thomas, for which his friend Telemann was at first preferred and to which Bach was finally appointed, and served from 1722 as Kapellmeister at Zerbst. He enjoyed a considerable reputation in his own time and his music was both admired and transcribed by Bach, whose posthumous fame overshadowed him. “…an assured performance of an intriguing work.” Gramophone Magazine, April 2008 | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
