| Pilgrimage to Santiago
The Monteverdi Choir, John Eliot Gardiner recorded: All Hallows, Gospel Oak, London - May 2005 Being a man for great
journeys of exploration,
John Eliot Gardiner took
his Monteverdi Choir on
a musical pilgrimage to
Santiago in 2004. The
concerts they gave along
the route have yielded
this superb album. All
the composers have a
connection with Spain,
so Morales and Mouton
are set alongside Dufay
and Victoria, marvellous
performances all. - Gramophone Magazine “Unaccompanied, the Monteverdi Choir goes back to its roots in a programme which harnesses scholarship and singing of breathtaking beauty.” Gramophone Magazine, October 2008 BBC Music Magazine

| | | Orlando Lasso in Munich
Münchner Dommusik & Ecco la Musica, Karl-Ludwig Nies (director) Orlando di Lasso's arrival at Munich Cathedral marked the start of a golden age of music. It was a post di Lasso held for almost forty years. Karl-Ludwig Nies, the Cathedral's present Kapellmeister presents a cross section of the Domkapelle's repertoire in and around Lasso's time, including works by his son Ferdinand. This recording was made in the historically authentic setting of Munich Cathedral where the vast echo gives the music a profound resonance. |

| | | I Sing the Birth
The landscape traversed on this disc is broad, from twelfth-century conductus to a twentyfirst-century carol, though the musical centre is firmly polyphonic and rooted in the late medieval world. From the meditative simplicity of plainsong, Polyphony’s diverse voices burst forth as a resplendent flowering of music itself, in expressions of joy and wonder, in contemplation and exuberance alike. “The four male members of New York Polyphony… are the core performers, augmented as necessary by a trio of female voices, the crystalline purity of the soprano contribution to Kenneth Leighton's setting of the famous 'Coventry Carol' being particularly affecting. They sing most alluringly, superior technique a given but never flaunted, the focus squarely on communicating the deeply emotional wellsprings of much of this music.” BBC Music Magazine, December 2007 ***** | | | Unfortunately, as of December 3rd 2008 the UK distributor for this label is in administration. Although an agreement has already been signed with a new distributor, we expect some delay before stock is available again. | | | Reges TerraeMusic from the Time of Emperor Charles V
During the first half of the sixteenth century, there was no greater a ruler than the Emperor Charles V, whose court was lavishly supplied with music by composers of high talent. Charles had a personal enthusiasm for music, and his chapel was more or less in constant attendance on his travels. It is small wonder, then, that a number of the greatest composers of the age had some connection with him, including the Franco-Flemish composers Manchicourt, Cristóbal de Morales and Nicolas Gombert. Complementing these composers are the perhaps less well-known Guerrero and Jacobus Clemens non Papa. As members of the chapel choir of Charles V, most of these composers travelled the Empire widely, and were praised as among the outstanding masters of their time. Only Francisco Guerrero worked exclusively in Spain. To us the least well known of the Spanish composers of the period, and consequently the most underrated, he was the most admired Spanish musician of the second half of the sixteenth century, known for his Latin liturgical works. Manchicourt composed some of the most glorious music of the time, this CD including the well-known early motet O Virgo virginum along with the premiere recording of the Agnus Dei from the Missa Reges terrae. De Morales is widely recognised as the most important figure in early sixteenth-century Spanish music, garnering frequent praise from his contemporaries and ranking with Palestrina in his mastery of polyphony. Nordic Voices here present two of his sumptuous and richly varied motets. "Intonation? Impeccable. Ensemble? Unfailing precision in phrasing, dynamics, color – everything finely tuned a
succession of works ever-changing in style and expressive meaning." Washington Post on Nordic Voices | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
