“Music fit for kings - The Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles – set up by the French Gaovernment to research and perform French music from the years between 1600 and 1800 – have gathered together 20 CDs
worth of alluring material, most of it from live recordings made last autumn by Radio France at concerts in various rooms of the Versailles palace…..for anyone who loves French Baroque and Classical music, this box is
a cast-iron must have.” Gramophone Magazine, August 2008 “A monumental achievement, this is essential listening - not just for classical fans, but for anyone who cares remotely for French culture.” The Guardian, 8th August 2008 ***** “Almost all the performances are good, and many of them are first-rate. For anyone who loves French Baroque and Classical music, this box is a cast-iron must have.” Gramophone Magazine, August 2008 “…this handsome jubilee collection demonstrates the dazzling range of musical genres and styles that resonated throughout the palace of Versailles during two centuries of Bourbon rule. …enjoy the spontaneity of concert performances rather than polished studio recordings.” BBC Music Magazine, August 2008 ***** “For 20 years, the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles has been unearthing and reviving the splendid legacy of operas, symphonies, motets and sonatas that were heard at the great palace over 200 years. That
achievement is recognised in this sumptuous set, recorded by three generations of interpreters including William Christie, Christophe Rousset and Louis Castelain…..A bargain at £3 a disc.” The Observer, 17th August 2008 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Musique Pour Mazarin!Qui a le coeur a tout
Elizabeth Dobbin (soprano) Le Jardin Secret Continuing its work with young artists, CORO has the pleasure of announcing Musique Pour Mazarin! the
debut recording by Le Jardin Secret, winners of both the first prize and audience prize at the Early Music
Network Young Artists Competition 2007.
This talented young ensemble consisting of soprano, harpsichord, theorbo, viola da gamba and baroque cello,
present a delightfully varied programme featuring a diverse mixture of French and Italian music that would have
been heard at the court of the flamboyant Cardinal Jules Mazarin.
The juxtaposition of French and Italian works on this disc shows clearly the rich selection of music heard at
Mazarin’s court in the late 1600s. They demonstrating the stark contrast between the French and Italian styles of
the period with the added ingredient of political and cultural rivalry and intrigue - the Italian born Cardinal
importing Italian culture into a resistant French context - contributes a little "piquancy" to the mix! “It is a great pleasure to welcome this first-class debut disc, which suggests that Le Jardin Secret have a very bright future indeed. The imaginative programme, inspired by the clash of French and Italian musical cultures at Cardinal Mazarin's court, contains much beautiful and unfamiliar music, and the performances are superb.” The Telegraph, 12th July 2008 “Elizabeth Dobbin's expressive soprano gives almost continual pleasure…” Gramophone Magazine, October 2008 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | L’Esprit Galant
Johannette Zomer (soprano) & Fred Jacobs (french theorbo) “Fred Jacobs is both expert as accompanist and as soloist in his various solos, notably a fine chaconne by Robert de Visée. Johannette Zomer is adept in dealing with the vocal ornament needed to leaven repetition and, in this sympathetic recorded ambience, often charms.” BBC Music Magazine, February 2008 *** | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Les Grandes Eaux Musicales 2007All tracks recorded between 2000 and 2006
Le Concert Spirituel, Hervé Niquet This music serves as the soundtrack to the Les Grandes Eaux spectacle which
takes place in the parks at Versailles from April to September. Over the past
twenty years concerts have been given to the accompaniment of the numerous,
and spectacular, fountains in full 'flow'.
For 2007, celebrating the ensemble's 20th anniversary, Hervé Niquet and Le
Concert Spirituel have been asked to present a musical spectacle to capture the
grandeur of the age.Their selection, produced by Glossa, embraces
composers such as Charpentier, Desmarest, Boismortier and also that
dominating figure of Jean-Baptiste Lully (with previously unheard extracts from
Lully's tragédie en musique Proserpine).
Accompanying the recording there is a fascinating article about the theatre,
dance and music-making that used to take place under the patronage of the
French kings and their court during the reign of Louis XIII and his successors.
Nor has the visual exuberance of the times been ignored in the sumptuous packaging,
which includes historical pictures of the fountains. | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

Il Seminario Musicale, Gerard Lesne The pieces presented here by Gérard Lesne were probably sung by Charpentier at the Hôtel de Guise for
the privileged circle of his patron Marie de Lorraine, and are either first recordings or currently unavailable
