Daniel Taylor (counter tenor) Theatre of Early Music Sony BMG Masterworks is delighted to announce the release of the debut CD on RCA RED SEAL by Canadian counter tenor, Daniel Taylor. ‘The Voice of Bach’ showcases some of the most famous and best-loved examples of J.S. Bach’s superlative writing for the human voice. Accompanying Daniel Taylor in the choruses and symphonic interludes on this CD is the Theatre of Early Music, a Canadian-based period-instrument ensemble and choir of which Taylor is founder and artistic director. Daniel Taylor works with an ever-widening circle of the world’s leading early and contemporary music experts including Ton Koopman, Paul McCreesh, Sir Jonathan Miller and Trevor Pinnock. On 15th January 2009 he will be appearing at Birmingham Town Hall as Hamor in Nicholas McGegan’s production of Handel’s ‘Jephta’. Gramophone recently noted of Daniel Taylor’s musicianship: ”eloquently thought through and beautifully sung with the perfect sense of dramatic character:.. Sung with peerless vocal beauty and remarkably sensitive ornaments”. “…is chamber music-making of high seriousness and high integrity that allows Bach's timeless music to speak for itself.” BBC Music Magazine, October 2008 ***** |

The Monteverdi Choir & The English Baroque Soloists, John Eliot Gardiner “Another treasure chest of refreshment and musical surprises...Highlights include the exploratory BWV 150, the jazzy duet from BWV 97, Paul Agnew and David Watkins’s tenor aria with cello accompaniment (BWV 183), and the final Johann Christoph Bach motet – to die for.” The Times, 4th July 2008 **** “There is a genuine pilgrim’s humility about this recording that contrasts tellingly with the magnificence of the achievement. Gardiner has made history.” The Times “This latest volume from Gardiner's 2000 Bach Pilgrimage exudes the now-familiar sense of urgent, excited discovery. None of these cantatas is well known. Yet the power and fertility of Bach's invention are spellbinding...
As ever, Gardiner and his crack forces combine dramatic flair (the turba chorus in No 44 has a shocking ferocity), rhetorical subtlety and a profound feeling for Bach's unique vein of morbid inwardness.” The Telegraph, 9th August 2008 “This is Bach at a very high level - a match for anything else that is currently available on disc.” BBC Music Magazine, August 2008 ***** “Once again, Gardiner’s Monteverdi Choir is the jewel in the crown of each cantata performance. Add to that Gardiner’s dramatic, electric response to music he clearly loves and you have a set that rivals his Gramophone Record of the Year Award-winning disc that launched this amazing series.” Gramophone Magazine “The second Sie werden (BWV183) is the pick of the crop… From the most theatrical of openings, the committed Paul Agnew navigates his way expertly through one of Bach's most extended and contemplative testaments of faith, "Ich fürchte nicht".” Gramophone Magazine, 2008 Awards Issue | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

James Bowman & Daniel Taylor (counter tenors) Theatre of Early Music “Taylor Bowman…complement each other as perfectly as coffee and cream. A close-recorded perspective ensure the words cut through with compelling detail.” BBC Music Magazine, March 2008 **** “James Bowman has been around for decades, whereas Daniel Taylor is a comparative newcomer; despite the age difference, they are equals in all respects. They are heard together in "Sound the trumpet" and "In vain the am'rous flute", the fullness of Bowman's voice nicely offset by Taylor's leaner tones.” Gramophone Magazine, March 2008 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

The earliest piece is Tritt auf die Glaubens-bahn, BWV 152… Gardiner captures its intimacy and tenderness, and is outstandingly well served by Gillian Keith in her aria with recorder, viola d'amore and continuo.
