Mischa Maisky (violoncello) & Sergio Tiempo (piano) “Mischa Maisky's has been waiting for the right pianist to record the Cello Sonata… and it is easy to see why he chose Sergio Tiempo… Tiempo's easy grace and crystalline spring to the playing provide a magic carpet on which Maisky billows and soars, and the surrounding airiness of the live Lugano recording certainly helps to make this a new benchmark.” BBC Music Magazine, June 2008 ***** “Some glorious playing from Masiky… With the outer movements, in which Rachmaninov indulges not only his lyrical outpourings but the elaborate piano textures that came naturally to him, Tiempo does well to keep the touch light so as to give Maisky freer rain.” Gramophone Magazine, February 2008 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

Martha Argerich (piano), Sergei Nakariarov (trumpet), Renaud Capucon (violin), Mischa Maisky (cello), Lilya Zilberstein (piano), Alissa Margulis (violin) & Lyda Chen (viola) Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Alexander Verdernikov "Martha Argerich's summers at the Lugano Festival are reaping a rich harvest of live recordings for admirers of this supreme pianist. … This is live music-making of the most exhilarating order, benefiting from the intimacy of the setting as much as the skills of these peerless musicians." The Guardian “Here's an excellent, multi-faceted programme which reflects both Shostakovich's madcap humour and his more "private", expressive side. A truly charismatic and exhilarating experience.” BBC Music Magazine, May 2008 “This excellent disc, consisting of live performances from the 'Progetto Martha Aregerich' at the 2006 Lugano Festival, has a spontaneity and sheer pleasure in music-making one doesn’t often hear in Shostakovich.” BBC Music Magazine, November 2007 ***** “Recorded at the 2006 Lugano Festival, Argerich's virtuosity is breathtaking. There's also a vivid, dramatic performance of the Piano Quintet.” Gramophone Magazine, November 2008 CD Review

| | | Mischa Maisky - Morgen
Mischa Maisky (cello) & Pavel Gililov (piano) Partnered by the distinguished pianism of Pavel Gililov, Maisky’s intimacy with Strauss’s and Dvorák’s pieces for cello and piano is the fruit of years of playing and loving these sublime compositions. Maisky’s masterly bowing caresses soulful tone out of his 18th century Montagnana cello. Even in thrall to violent emotion, master cellist Maisky oversees his music making from an altitude of heavenly serenity. Classic FM’s description of Maisky as “one of the world’s leading cellists” qualifies as understatement of the year! This repertoire is entirely new to the DG catalogue and represents different facets of Mischa’s extraordinary career. These works have accompanied him all over the world and feature regularly in his concert programmes. On 10 January 2008 Mischa Maisky celebrated his 60th birthday, the start of a year that also marks the 25th anniversary of his partnership with Deutsche Grammophon. |

| | | Verbier Festival Highlights 2007
The Verbier Festival, created in 1994, rapidly acquired a reputation for artistic excellence and is now
considered to be among the major European music festivals. During a fortnight each July, the greatest stars of
the classical music world come together against the magical backdrop of the Swiss Alps. The Verbier Festival gives musicians the opportunity to perform original programmes with fellow musicians
they admire, but with whom they may never have performed before. These world première performances
produce innovative and exciting results, as much for artists as for audiences. Through the Academy, the Verbier Festival invests in the talents of young artists, while creating, and promoting
excellence in the performing arts. “In just a few years, the Verbier Festival has built up a reputation for quality, youth and frenetic artistic activity. We are proud regularly to welcome artists who are well-known all round the world, who so enjoy coming to play for us.” Martin T:son Engstroem, Festival Director “Whatever the reason, Verbier attracts great artists and inspires them to new heights, helped by the canny casting of the festival founder and artistic director Martin Engstroem. Martha Argerich… is absolutely astounding in the finale of Bartók's Sonata for Violin and Piano No 1 with a demonically driven Renaud Capuçon. ...Nelson Freire, offers a tender, one might say avuncular, view of Debussy's Children's Corner, a contrast to the glacial Hélène Grimaud in Schumann and Ravel, and Evgeny Kissin's Liebesträume No 3 where love is clearly a cross to be borne (though his Bizet-Horowitz Variations justifiably raise the roof). Rounding off proceedings is a fired-up Joshua Bell in the finale of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto. Visually, the camerawork is efficient and nothing more.” Gramophone Magazine, 2008 Awards Issue |

| | | The Dvorák Cycle - Volume IV
Prague Symphony Orchestra, Libor Pešek Mischa Maisky is one of the world’s leading cellists. He supplies evidence in his fantastic performance of Dvorák’s
famous Cello Concerto, which is included in the fourth part of the Dvorák Cycle. After 1975, Maisky established an
international reputation, touring the USA, Europe, Australia and the Far East. In 1977 he played for the fi rst time in
London with pianist Radu Lupu. Subsequent years of work in the recording studio and on the concert podium made
Maisky one of the most important cellists of his generation.
Ever since its fi rst performance in 1893 in New York’s Carnegie Hall, the Ninth Symphony has taken its place among
the greatest works of European romanticism. The public response to the work was so overwhelming that the Czech
composer became the most popular man in New York overnight. One can only agree with Václav Neumann: “Yes, this is
the most magnifi cent symphony in the repertoire of Czech music.” | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
