In the last decade no other artist has influenced the
development of classical music and jazz in such an
important way as Uri Caine. His adaptions and
re-compositions of classical works have found
enthusiastic acceptance throughout the world.
Uri Caine will receive the Echo Klassik, the most
significant award in the German music world, and
Winter & Winter, after much pressure from their
distributors, now produce this special album, The
Classical Variations featuring Uri's renowned
adaptations and new unreleased material. "..musicality and invention leaps out at every opportunity. It's also Caine's touch on the forte piano - a sound that may still quicken the heart of anyone once hooked on the BBC's Pride and Prejudice." | | | The Devil's DreamWorks by Eccles, Dowland, Ford, Simpson,Anon, Robinson, Rosseter, Poole, Hume, Byrd, Purcell, Pianca, Ghielmi
Graciela Gibelli (soprano), Luca Pianca (lute, chitaronne, baroque guitar), Vittorio Ghielmi (lutes, viols) In their third collaboration with harmonia mundi, Luca
Pianca and Vittorio Ghielmi perform musical miniatures
from the time of Shakespeare.
From Solomon Eccles's Division to a Ground to the
lament of John Dowland's Solus cum sola, passing to
Byrd´s lovely lullaby Come, pretty babe, this journey from
Dowland to Purcell offers more than the typical
melancholy which was the characteristic of those times.
Also included are two pieces of their own composition:
Devil´s Dream by Luca Pianca (which gives title to the cd)
and Little Dew, Little Light by Ghielmi, dedicated to the
birth of his own child. | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Bagpipes from Hell
Luca Pianca (Ceterone), Vittorio Ghielmi (Lyra-viol), Luca Pianca (Lute), Vittorio Ghielmi (Bass Viola da gamba) This oddly named recording does not contain any bagpipe music. What we do have is a collection of pieces for lute and viola da gamba featuring music by a host of baroque composers both familiar and obscure. The title was probably inspired by the opening tune, "The Brown Haired Maiden," a staple for Scottish bagpipe players. Two more arrangements of anonymous bagpipe tunes, "Bagpipes" and "Lancashire Pipes" round out the pipe connection. Vittorio Ghielmi is clearly having fun when he imitates the droning sound of the bagpipes on his viola da gamba. When Ghielmi is joined by lutenist Luca Pianca, the result is inspired. The soloists also excel in the more introverted music of such composers as Marin Marais, Antoine Forqueray, Leopold Weiss and others. Pianca is magnificent in the solo lute pieces of Weiss, especially the expansive Praeludium et Fuga in E minor. Equally impressive is the gritty playing the duo brings to Marais's "La Paraza." Sumptuous sound quality and lavish packaging makes this recording a real treasure. | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
