Stephan Genz (baritone) & Roger Vignoles (piano) “Both "Dras irdische Leben" and "Der Tambourg'sell" - two starkly different songs - have a gentle lyricism that's deeply affecting. Genz is partnered by Roger Vignoles, whose playing is so sharply characterised and finely weighted that I hardly missed the better-known orchestral version.” Gramophone Magazine, July 2008 “Stephan Genz's light, warm and cultured baritone is especially fine in reflecting the ghost voices and moonlight serenades of Mahler's folk-inspired anthology. Yet more attack is surely needed for the prisoner in the tower and the what should be the increasingly desperate pleas of the starving child is 'Das irdische Leben'.” BBC Music Magazine, February 2008 *** | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| |  | Schubert - Two Singspiele
Aga Mikolaj, Stephan Genz, Andreas Karasiak & Thomas Jakobs Chorus Musicus Köln & Das Neue Orchester, Christoph Spering Franz Schubert’s two Singspiele presented on this new disc are works often overshadowed by his more famous masterpieces. Nevertheless, Christoph Spering and his excellent group of musicians demonstrate that this is unjust, both works sounding unbelievably refreshing deserving their own merit. It is apt that Spering conducts these little known Schubert works with Das Neue Orchester and Chorus Musicus Köln (both of which Spering is director/conductor of). Both Spering and orchestra devote themselves to unknown or rediscovered repertoire. Das Neue Orchester was the first German orchestra to apply to results of historic performance practice up to the Romantic period. |

| |  | Mahler - Songs
Stephan Genz (baritone) & Roger Vignoles (piano) ‘This disc shows Stephan Genz entering his fourth decade with all the light suppleness and ardour of his youthful recordings, but now with darker
colours and firmer bass ballast folding into his baritone. His intuitive musical partnership with Roger Vignoles is as sentient and perceptive as ever;
and together they uncover the dark, sensual mysteries of the late-Romantic response to the natural world’ (BBC Music Magazine) | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
