Patricia Kopatchinskaja (violin) Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien Kuhr: Studied composition with Josef Friedrich Doppelbauer and Hans Werner Henze. He worked as a coach at the Cologne Opera and at the Graz Opera. 1988 saw the world premiere of his opera Stallerhof followed by Tod und Teufel in 1999. Resch: He studied composition and musicology at Musikhochschule Köln. His works have been widely performed around Europe, including the Salzburg Festival. Zykan: Born in Vienna in 1935, died in 2006. His early career saw him join the Vienna Boys’ Choir, later he studied piano and composition. 1966 saw his breakthrough as a composer with the opera Singers Nähmaschine ist die beste. As Zykan regarded music as a personal concern that “can only be executed personally i.e. directly” and felt “unable to publish works”, many of his compositions written prior to 1994 have been lost or discarded. |

Garth Knox (viola) Asko Ensemble, WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, Stefan Asbury The 'Acoustic Spaces' cycle, begun in 1974 and completed in 1985, consists of six instrumental works that may be played consecutively, since each acoustic space extends the previous one. The unity of the whole is based on the formal similarity of the pieces and on the two acoustic points of reference: the overtone spectrum and periodicity. | | | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. |
